How Does This Apply to Me?

What is the Order of St. Luke? Is it just another healing mission?  Most of the healing missions of today have one featured “healer,” with one method of healing.  Among the members of the Order of St. Luke are many gifted men and women who regularly conduct healing services. Although their methods often differ, depending on their gifts or their background, their prayers are all are distinctly Christian.  Many churches have regular healing services with clergy and/or lay persons responsible for praying, many of whom are members of of our Order.  These may include you.  Very likely many of our “No Chapter Chapter” members do not have that privilege.  Where do the rest of us fit it?

I was introduced to the Order in a local church.  We had a small chapter; a few of us were inducted; we sponsored two healing services.  Some of us made ourselves available for prayer after services.  The chapter became inactive.  At the present time I’m not involved in any healing meetings, but I find my experience in the Order to be invaluable.  I have learned a great deal about healing and the different ways God operates. I also have had the privilege of receiving prayers for emotional healing and have learned, and am still learning, to forgive and let go of hurtful memories of the past.  That of itself has been an invaluable experience.  I’m a much happier and healthier person and I can credit a great deal of that to the Order of St. Luke.

But that’s not all.  I’m learning to be alert to persons with problems.  Sometimes I just listen to their “organ recital” with compassion and concern.  Sometimes the conversation leads to an obvious opportunity to offer prayer, either on the spot or on my prayer list.   I’ve prayed quietly and unobtrusively for a person sitting beside me on the bus.  I also find that it’s easier for me to bring Jesus into a conversation.  By listening carefully and truly caring and listening to God before I open my mouth, I find that people appreciate and respond.

This all boils down to my experiencing the Love of God and beginning to care and try, in my humble way, to share that Love.   Some day I may again have the privilege of belonging to a local chapter of the Order of St. Luke, or some other healing prayer group.  In the meantime I have my prayer list. I try to care and show interest in the persons I’m praying for, and thank God for what I have learned and am still learning through the Order of St. Luke.
