Army Commendation Medal, 22 Oct.1991
For meritorious service as the Noncommissioned officer In Charge of the Ammunition Supply Branch, Command Ammunition office, 19th Support Command Korea. From 11 Sept. 90 to 11 Sept. 91. Master Sergeant Hermanns' was the primary organizer of the first theater level automated ammunition stress test. The test successfully generated hard data necessary to analyze the system's wartime effectiveness. He also spearheaded the effort to fix computer link between US Army and Korean Army Logistics commands, reestablishing the ability to maintain ammunition visibility for the theater. His contribution significantly increased the overall effectiveness of the office.

United States Army Ordnance Missile Munitions Center and School Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, from 15 Jul. 1987 to 17 Sept. 1990. He provided quality instruction for the professional development of officers, noncommissioned officers. and entry level soldiers by researching and ensuring the most current information was being presented; He contributed immeasurably to the passing of two Department of the Army Nuclear Technical Inspections, Nov.1988 and Mar.1990, with no comments received during the latter. Master Sergeant Hermanns has brought great credit upon himself his unit and the United States Army.

Army Achievement Medal, 6 Feb. 1989
For exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as Instructor, Munitions Training Department, United States Army Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal, AL. From 1 Aug. 88 to 18 Nov. 88. Sergeant First Class Hermanns developed a large volume of material for the three most technical courses in the division. At the same time, he incorporated this and other instructional material into the computer system allowing for faster, more accurate review and revision process. His research and hard WORK contributed significantly to the successful completion of the Department of the Army Nuclear Surety Inspection with this department.

For exceptional meritorious achievement while serving as Instructor, Munitions Training Department, United States Army Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal Alabama. Sergeant First Class Hermanns excellent leadership ability, technical expertise, and outstanding instructional abilities were directly responsible for him being selected as Instructor of the Month for March 1988. his commitment and exemplary efforts in preparation and presentation of classes were evident by his flawless instructional techniques.

 

Army Commendation Medal. 13 Aug. 1987
For exceptionally meritorious service while assigned to the 69th Ordnance company and 559h United States Army Artillery Group from 13 Aug. 84 to 14 Jul. 87. During this period Sergeant First Class Hermanns served as maintenance Platoon Sergeant at the 69th Ordnance company and then became the 559h Artillery maintenance Advisor. The combination of his inexhaustible knowledge and his leadership raised significantly the combat readiness of the 69th Ordnance Company. As Maintenance Advisor for the Group, he shared his expertise with all subordinate units, resulting in a dramatic increase in proficiency across the Group.

Reed, Commander, 559th Artillery Group, "For exceptionally superior performance of duties as the operations sergeant of the Group Tactical Operations center you displayed a comprehensive knowledge of Group operational requirements and made personal sacrifices by working for extended periods of time. This professionalism and devotion to duty enhanced the overall effectiveness of the Tactical Operations Center. Additionally, the DISTAFF program you created and managed injected tactical incidents, which realistically tested the reporting capabilities of subordinate units in a wartime scenario.

This exercise required long hours of planning, coordination and meetings. Without your assistance in the difficult task of gathering and making the materials used at the crash site and preparing the Operations Order, the exercise would not have gone as smoothly or as nearly perfect as it did You are the type of NCO that functions in an outstanding manner without continued guidance. For meritorious service during the period 18 May 76 to Feb. 80. Assigned to the 69th Ordnance Company Maintenance Platoon as a maintenance technician Specialist Hermanns, performance of maintenance on classified munitions and host nation trainers was outstanding. Through long hours and energetic application of knowledge the unit's Nuclear, Chemical and Biological protective posture has increased dramatically.

Your demonstrated ability on Hotline procedures received nothing but laudatory comments from Defense Nuclear Team School personnel as well as the USAREUR evaluators grading the exercise. Comments made were the "best observed in USAREUR during the past year" to "better than half the teams that attended the NET school in CONUS. The seriousness and professionalism displayed by you is in the highest traditions of the professional soldier. Again my congratulations on a job well done.
